Two cities. Six lives. Six destinies connected.

"The Hero Inside Us" tells the story of six characters in contemporary Yemen living their separate but interconnected lives and showing their very different challenges and struggles.

It is also a very special project, since it was shot in the Yemeni cities of Aden and Sana'a on both sides of the ongoing conflict and aims at introducing 10 messages of peaceful conflict transformation (like "There is more than one kind of violence", "Root causes" or "Weapons are the problem, not the solution.") to the Yemeni audience.

It was written and produced in Arabic as a 10-part series for web and TV by two Yemeni production companies, was funded by the EU and Germany and was creatively supervised by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GiZ).

The series is also accompanied by 10 explanatory bonus clips that further explore the 10 learning messages and were very well received on Facebook by the Yemeni audience.

The project is available in the original series format (10x 22min.) and also as one long movie of 3,5 hours. For your viewing convenience here on Film Freeway we uploaded the movie version (Youtube with English subtitles).

Lost Voices - Reclaiming Sami Identity

Documentary

country

Norway

duration:

01:12:12

"LOST VOICES" follows the lives of three individuals living in Hamarøy, in the northern part of Norway. Deeply committed to fostering dialogue and reconciliation, they courageously strive to restore Sami dignity in a society scarred by trauma. However, their pursuit comes at a cost, challenging them to break the silence, confront the past, and reclaim their cultural identity.

Through the intertwined stories of Anne, Anna, and Rolf, "LOST VOICES" illuminates conflicts rooted in disparate understandings of reality. The film invites viewers on a thought-provoking journey to confront the past, acknowledge cultural identities, and forge a path towards a more inclusive and reconciled future.

We follow their lives from 2018 to 2023. Amid a conflict over wind farms and Sami rights, they courageously fight to restore dignity and reclaim their culture. The film explores the complex aftermath of Norwegianisation, delving into the invisible spiritual reality of the Sami and the need to listen and acknowledge their stories. Through dialogue and reconciliation, the documentary aims to foster understanding and initiate discussions about accommodating the Sami in society. With versions for TV and cinema/festivals, it seeks broad distribution and screenings accompanied by engaging dialogues and debates
